I’m going with a photo essay this time! It’s ~115 degrees for the second day in a row. Fortunately we have a window AC unit to keep the temperatures in the house under control, but basically we are hiding out until things improve.
A gorgeous housewarming gift from my roommate, Kai. Art made of local rocks and wood.
Jesse, Heather, Darice, and Arthur (L to R). IT was Darice’s first ever mountain bike ride and she did great! Thanks so much for visiting from Boulder, CO my friends!
A very big Douglas Fir in a small patch of Old Growth Forest. And, why yes, we were wearing hats and jackets two weeks ago. Now the forecast is 100% sun and temps in the 90s (but first we gotta survive this last 115 degree day) for the foreseeable future; still abnormally and dangerously high. We are so worried about fire. Check out the podcast Timber Wars to learn more about the history of logging and the environmental movement to protect these beautiful trees centered RIGHT HERE in the Willamette Forest.
Wild flowers and Mito on Ture Mountain on a rainy chilly June day.More Tire Mountain wildflowers with Jesse in the distance.
Oh to have this weather back!!
Amazing trail work going on among amazing natural beauty on Tire Mountain/Cloverleaf.Game of croquet anyone? These are at the local distillery Deep Woods where there is live music outside every Saturday evening and the owner Mick and his wife are rumored to have chained themselves to trees to help save them back in the day. Let’s all take inspiration and keep standing up for what is right, good, and beautiful in this world.
Mmm… rhubarb.
Yep, still making sourdough bread,
Aaron’s Beard (aka Common St. John’s Wort?)
Foxglove (taken with a damp camera/phone)
Sue, Eugene and I did an impromptu camping night before meeting up with Scott the next morning for trail work. Based on a quick Google search, I think this burned as part of the Warner Creek Fire of 1991.Up on Bunchgrass Ridge with Scott (holding the chainsaw), Eugene, and Sue on the hike in for a long hot day of clearing trail. I rode this trail in 2017 when I completed the Oregon Timber Trail.Did the last of the transplants into the garden (bush beans and cucumbers) about a week ago and now everything is out there curling in the scorching temperatures. They bounced back well last night. I hope they can absorb the impact of this second brutal day in a row. With weather like this is rather feels like it. As we fully enter climate crisis mode, we need to focus on caring for the most vulnerable. Have you helped your brothers and sisters living on the streets lately? Have you checked in on an elderly neighbor, or one without many resources, to see if they need food, water, or ice?
Nice photos!
Thank you!!
